ABOUT US

My love for animals began as a child, growing up in a Military lifestyle, it was difficult to have animals of our own. So I did the next best thing and rescued every, bird, rabbit, dog, snake or any other animal I came across that needed help. My first dog was a German Shepard bitch, who we had when I was 5. After a bad accident where she wrapped her chain around my neck while we were playing and I fell off of the dog house nearly choking to death; My mother apparently thought I was too young for a dog and placed her with another family. After years with no dog and working with other people's horses and dogs I pestered my mother into getting me a dog. Those were the years of Lassie and I wanted my own Lassie very much. Much to my surprise when we went to visit a Borzoi Kennel ( Ruro) in Kansas and came home with an Self  Red Male named Yurri. We enjoyed him so much that when we attended the MBC Specialty in 1967 or 68 and we came home with Odette. That was the beginning of it all and I have never turned back.

In 1980 after several years in the breed, another kennel used my original kennel name. That was about the time when Mt. St. Helen's blew and hence the creation of my new kennel name. Mountains of ash poured down on my house, yard and dogs, so it seemed appropriate.  I love the Mountain with its beauty and power. I feel the same about my breed. I love this breed with everything I have and can only hope that I do them justice and have a positive impact on the future of this breed.

I met my Husband, Charlie in 1993 and had several Borzoi at that time. He came from a rural household that had cats, rabbits, chickens and the like, but had he no idea what was in store for his future and life with the Borzoi and me. Charlie is a very good person, he is kind, giving and caring. He has helped many at dog shows but mostly he has been supportive and  instrumental in helping to care for the Borzoi, building the Kennel and socializing the puppies. I couldn't do it without him.
